What photo should I upload?
Any clear-face photo works, but for best results, use a high-resolution image (your phone likely does this already) with good natural lighting. Front-facing photos with a neutral background work best. Avoid heavy filters, sunglasses, or photos where the face is partially obscured.
What file types are supported?
We support JPEG, PNG, WEBP, and HEIC formats up to 10MB.
Do I need to create an account?
No account is required to upload a photo and see your AI variations. However, creating an account lets you save your photos for later, track orders, and access your purchase history.
Can I upload multiple photos?
Yes! You can upload multiple photos to create different sets of portraits. Each upload generates its own set of 6 variations.
What ages work best?
SmilePlease works for children of all ages, from toddlers to high schoolers. The AI is optimized for school-age children but works well with adults too.
AI generation
How many variations do I get?
Every upload generates 6 unique AI portrait variations. Each variation has a slightly different style, pose adjustment, or background, so you can find the perfect one.
How long does generation take?
Most photos are processed in about 60 seconds. You'll see each variation appear progressively as it's generated.
Why do some variations look different?
AI generation is inherently creative, so each variation is unique. Some may have different backgrounds, lighting, or subtle pose adjustments. This variety helps you find the perfect portrait. See our AI Disclosure for more details.
Can I regenerate if I don't like the results?
Yes, you can upload a different photo or the same photo again to get a fresh set of 6 variations. Starter access includes 1 photo set + 3 retakes. Unlock more photo sets with a paid order or a $5 portrait credit. Sometimes a slightly different angle or lighting produces better results.
Are the results guaranteed?
Because these are AI-generated, results can vary. We provide watermarked previews so you can see exactly what you're getting before you pay. We recommend reviewing all 6 variations carefully before purchasing.
Ordering and payment
What paper quality do you use for prints?
We use Kodak Professional Inkjet Lustre Photo Paper (255gsm) – the industry standard for professional photography studios and fine art reproduction.

What print sizes are available?
We offer 8×10", 5×7", and wallet-size (2.5×3.5") prints. Packages let you mix and match sizes across your top-rated variations.
Can I order digital downloads only?
Yes, digital downloads are available for all your portrait variations. You'll receive high-resolution files suitable for printing at any photo lab.
Do I get normal reprint/sharing rights for purchased digitals?
Yes. Purchased digital files are delivered in high resolution with family-friendly use expectations so you can keep, share with family, and reprint for personal use.
Who handles my payment?
All payments are securely processed via Stripe, a PCI-DSS Level 1 certified payment processor. We never see or store your credit card details.
What payment methods are accepted?
We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover), as well as Apple Pay and Google Pay.
Can I cancel my order?
Orders are sent to production immediately after payment. Contact us within 1 hour and we may be able to cancel before production starts. See our Refund Policy for details.
Shipping and delivery
How long does shipping take?
Production takes 2-3 business days. Shipping times vary: Economy (5-7 days), Standard (3-7 days), or Express (1-3 days). Total delivery is typically 1-2 weeks from order.
Do you ship internationally?
Currently, we only ship within the United States (all 50 states, including Alaska, Hawaii, and US territories). We hope to expand internationally in the future.
How do I track my order?
You'll receive a shipping confirmation email with tracking information. You can also track your order in the Order Status page.
Can I change my shipping address?
Contact us immediately if you need to change your address. Changes aren't guaranteed once production has begun (usually within 24 hours of ordering).
Is free shipping available?
Yes! Orders over $30 or 10+ prints qualify for free economy shipping within the contiguous US. See our Shipping Policy for details.
Refunds and issues
What if my prints arrive damaged?
Contact us within 14 days with photos of the damage. We'll send a free replacement or issue a full refund—your choice. No need to return the damaged prints.
What if my package is lost?
If your package hasn't arrived within 14 days of the expected delivery date, contact us. We'll investigate and provide a replacement or refund.
What if I'm not happy with the AI results?
Since we provide watermarked previews before purchase, refunds for AI results are reviewed case-by-case. If the final prints look significantly different from the previews, contact us with photos.
Are digital downloads refundable?
Digital downloads are non-refundable once accessed. Please review the previews carefully before purchasing digital products.

Privacy and children
How long do you keep my photos?
Uploaded photos: Deleted within 10 days after your portraits are generated—just long enough for you to regenerate if needed or for us to help with any issues.
Generated portraits: Available for 30 days if you haven't purchased. If you buy prints, we save your portraits for 12 months so you can re-order, share with family, or build your school-years collection.
You can request immediate deletion at any time.
Do you use my photos to train AI?
No. We do not use your uploaded photos or generated portraits to train our AI models. Your photos are used only to generate your portraits.
Is my child's photo safe?
Yes. We take children's privacy seriously and comply with COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act). Photos are encrypted in transit and at rest. See our Privacy Policy and Parental Consent page for details.
Do I need parental consent to upload?
Yes. If you're uploading a photo of a child under 13, you must be the parent or legal guardian and provide consent. See our Parental Consent page for the process.
Sharing controls
How do I share my portraits with family?
After ordering, you can create custom share links for different people. Create one link for grandma, another for the school—each person gets their own link. Recipients can view and order their own prints without needing your account.
Can I control who sees my portraits?
Yes, completely. You create individual share links for each person or group. Links automatically expire after 30 days, and you can revoke anyone's access instantly. No public galleries, no one-size-fits-all sharing.
Can I see who viewed my shared portraits?
Yes. The sharing dashboard shows you which links have been viewed and when. You stay in control of your child's portraits.
Account and data
How do I create an account?
Click "Sign In" and enter your email. We'll send you a magic link—no password needed. You can also sign in with Google.
How do I delete my account?
Visit our Contact page or email privacy@smileplease.app with the subject "Delete My Account." We'll verify your identity and delete your account within 30 days.
Can I download my data?
Yes. You can request a copy of your personal data, including any photos still stored (uploaded photos are kept for 10 days, generated portraits for 30 days or 12 months if purchased). See our Data Request page.
Troubleshooting
My upload is failing. What should I do?
Check that your file is under 10MB and in a supported format (JPEG, PNG, WEBP, HEIC). Try a different browser or disable browser extensions. If the issue persists, contact support.
The generation seems stuck. What now?
Generation typically takes about 60 seconds. If it's been more than 2 minutes, try refreshing the page. Your upload is saved, so you won't lose your photo.
I can't access my saved photos.
Make sure you're signed in with the same email you used originally. Preview portraits are deleted after 30 days (or 12 months if you purchased and opted in to Memory Keeper). If you believe there's an error, contact support.
The website isn't loading correctly.
Try clearing your browser cache, disabling ad blockers, or using a different browser. We support the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge.
